MC
Master of Ceremonies, or Game Master as it were. Directs creatures, NPCS, defines threats and consequences
Player
The person running the character. A best practice with players is to use their character's name when refering to the things the players are doing.
Tags
Tags are words and phrases that give bonuses to die rolls. Each tag invoked by players offers a +1 to the die roll. Invoked tags can be used on the players next turn. Invoked tags CANNOT be used to mitigate on a turn. Tags can be burnt for a +3 bonus.
Mitigate
A player gets an opportunity to stop a status effect by using further tags that were not invoked in the action roll.
Burning Tags
An action players can take offering a +3 Bonus to a roll. Burnt tags can no longer be used until Downtime allows them to refresh.
Backpack
A special tag that holds equipment. Players have access to all the items, but only 3 pre chosen backpack tags can be invoked until there is opportunity to repack
Themes
Themes are categories for tags. There are 6 tags per theme INCLUDING the Theme itself. New Characters can only access the first 3 tags until they meet experience requirement. Themes also include a weakness tag.
Quick Outcomes
Rolls that require no tracking. Tags are used and the dice rules remain the same but the thing just happens.
Status
Status are generally problems that come from the MC as a consequence for an unfulfilled threat or as part of the challenge. Players can also give statuses to creatures and NPCs as well as positive statuses to each other.
Limits
Limits are the goals of a challenge, or creature. Limits are never higher than 6. The limit is reached when the players or Creatures/NPC/Challenges meet the limit number.
Power
The number added to a roll or subtracted from a roll due to a status. You're resulting power is be used to add or subtract statuses. Statuses stack and are added up over time. Regardless of the Power you add to the roll a success means you have at least +1 power to spend. Players can push rolls some rolls for an additional +1.
Downtime
A period of rest that allows Players to do activities that restore burnt tags or further mitigate statuses.
The Rolls and Rules of the Dice
Legends in the Mist is a 2d6 system
- 2-6 is No success and the player suffers consequences
- 7-9 is Success and consequences
- 10+ Success No Consequences
Remember to add those tags and bonuses
Pushing the roll
A Player may push a roll if they so choose. This means even on a 10 with no consequences they can choose to take a consequence and add +1 to their power.
Weakness Tags and Experience
MC's and players can invoke a Player's weakness. The player takes a -1 power AND adds an experience mark to that theme. After 3 experience player can add a tag to that theme or add a personalized improvement
Decay
Ignoring or acting against a tag or a theme can add decay to the theme. Once the theme decays players choose a new theme more relevant to their characters Growth
