The History of the world of Lune

Within these manuscripts lies the telling of the creation of the world we call Lune.

Myths and Legends for those that fancy the grandeur of the living.

Times of horror and such acts of destruction that show the pious how 'righteous' the gods can be.

Even the whispers of the before time when the land was moulded by hands powerful and forgotten. Hands with minds and desires - The Precursors - beings said to have created the Gods themselves but that is dark heretical knowledge.

Here we will stick to the tale of Lune, and for your purposes, sanity and remaining good life we will start at a beginning scholars call the Primordial Age...

A tumbled mountain range rose in the southeast, skirted on the west by forests, and flanked on the east by moors.

I want to call it the Goldrim, and have it be known as the fortress of the dawn, but that presumes there's a civilization to the west of it, and unknown lands to the east of it, and also that the sun comes up in the east and goes down in the west! Anyway who would be there to name it at this point?? Primordial. Primordial.

Drifting away from the southern hemisphere, a great plate of land crashes into the northern continent, uplifting a long volcanic chain along the line of impact. The Sandspine Ridge divides the arid landscape from more temperate fields above.

The Great Levee - a northerly range that (it was said in latter days of the world) seperates the inland sea from the cold arctic waters of the north. It also creates a narrow southern passage to the most westerly lands of the largest continent, with no easy pass to the north.

At the The Northern Choke the land held is not the only thing held in thrall by the mountainous barrier. The choke is also on the weather and the barriers wrings the moisture from the air filling the Choke's throat. Dangerous rapids, deeps, rocks and falls marks its tumultuous fall from the mountains, giving way to wider gentler flows as it meanders south. By the Sandspine Mountains it mingles with outflows from hot springs rich in things from the worlds hot deeps.

Water springs from the hills that cluster around on the western face of the Goldrim, gushing down in rapids and and cascades to the plains, where the river slows and wanders to the sea. In one of the river bends, near the center of the continent, a small lake forms, with an island in the center.

Lazily flowing from a series of low hills across gentle flatlands, the Broadwash is less of a river and more of a series of interconnected waterways that bring life and vibrancy to the region.

Hemmed in by the foothills of the Levee from ever reaching the inland sea, the Run eventually meets its shorter sister, the Rill, fed by a headwaters that is a smaller sister to the inland sea. Forced to flow south, yhey meet and drop, forming the River Ruin, a treacherous winding river that all the same feeds the arid lands to the south.

Between the mountains and the sea lies a large lake of cool clear water. There is no river and the rains are insufficient to keep such a large mouth in the earth quenched suggesting the water seeps down through the mountains or up through the earth from the sea where the salt is removed.

Through the clear waters you can see the lakes floor runs gently from its edges but soon drops off precipitously into dark deeps. The lake is not poisonous but is devoid of any kind of life in its waters.

Sea levels rose, submerging hills and mountains on the north side of the southern continents. Some stayed visible, but some were completely submerged, and corals massed there, first forming a fringe along the coastline. Then as sea levels rose again, a barrier reef was created, separated from the land by a deeper channel.

Far to the north-west on a long spit of land, a might oak tree grows to unprecedented heights. It will persist through ages, cataclysms and countless reigns of long forgotten rulers. Some say that it is a branch of Yggdrasil herself, connecting Lune to myriad other worlds.

The Bottomless Pit. A big hole! Wide enough to pass an army marching 100 abreast (if they wanted to pass straight down while remaining in formation). Deep enough to hold... well, anything. As much water as an ocean, some say. Every mountain in the world stacked atop every other, some say. It can't really be bottomless, can it? Does it come out the other side? Does it lead to a whole new underground lands? Is it a portal to strange worlds beyond? The primordial earth ain't going to spill the beans, I'll tell you that much.

Whatever initially existed on this South Eastern landmass is no more. After ascending the steep verdant hills you quickly find the interior to be a sunken desert vista. Whatever was here has been swallowed by the sands and on such a grand scale that no one can escape the sense that this is a bleak monument to the dangers of hubris. So vast and bleak that even naming it feels like inviting a similar judgement.

In the northern continent, the inland sea is squeezed by mountains to its north and south. This tends to funnel moisture in between, creating a lush rainforest to its east, between the mountain ranges.

In the flat southwestern continent, its warm northern peninsula is prime location for another jungle. With poor drainage, this jungle is a swampy and often-brackish mire for leagues in every direction.

Spear of the Earth: One side near vertical blending into the Shield Wall that bounds the valley to the south east. The rest a series of steeps, crags, glaciers and other obstacles. From a distance it resembles a ginormous spear pointing straight to the heavens that casts a long shadow over the lands to its south.

A table of land, bordered on the north and south by steep cliffs, but flat on top, green and arable, with forests and meadows. On the west side, a river flows down to the sea. On the east side, the butte ends in a huge promontory.
