Gwynypher’s Tea and Cartography House has been a staple of Oddwall for decades. She and her two companions, luxodon twins Brinter and Brynker, began the business as a cartography house (specializing in magical maps to unusual and sometimes impossible locations) that soon expanded into a tea (often from magical and impossible locations) and cartography business. And they lived happily ever after…for a time.
After the Macchiato Incident (do NOT ask), they rebuilt the house, adding a larger tea room and a second story; they, of course, kept the distinctive red roof. And they lived happily ever after, again…for a time.
Fifteen years ago, Gwen returned home with a tiny golden dragon. Every few years after that Gwen, one of the twins, or occasionally trusted adventurers would return with another dragon. Lindaurum was joined by Lindalba, Lindrosa, Lindmare, and finally Lindgrove, five years ago. Gwen gained the reputation as the ‘Dragon Marm’’ and people keep gifting her dragon sculptures over her distinct protests. Having no choice (obviously) but to magically animate them, the tiny dragons flit around the lively tea house, swooping down on patrons for a nibble of biscuit or a scritch on the head.
Since then there hasn’t been a dull moment. The siblings get into no end of trouble. Gwen keeps them (and the twins) in line as well as she can, but each year the dragons are getting bigger and Gwen is getting older and greyer.
You might be a regular patron or an occasional visitor. Either way you are always welcome. Gwen and the brothers always greet you by name and can prepare your favorite tea from memory. Each of you has a connection to the Tea House, another patron, or one of the proprietors. What is that connection? Below are a few prompts for inspiration, but feel free to make your own!
Connection Questions:
- You ran into Brinkter and Brynker as a rival during a previous adventure. Did you manage to out fox them or did they come out ahead? Regardless, extended an invite to show they didn’t have any hard feelings.
- You purchased a map that, due to a labeling error, sent you to a demi-plane inside the map itself. How did you escape? The error was corrected free of charge, and you are entitled to a free cup of tea whenever you are in Oddwall.
- Once a group of assassins came to kill you, you survived and one of them had a lovely box of loose leaf tea from Gwynypher’s Tea house. You tracked them down thinking they were behind the assassins. They weren’t, but now you and Gwen share an inside joke. What is it?
- Every time you have a lead on a big score, whether it is a pile of jewels, a rare spellbook, or a unique magic item, it’s always gone before you get there and a calling card is left in its place. What is the calling card? You suspect the culprit is a regular at the Tea House, but have yet to uncover their identity.
- During a late night of drinking and swapping stories with the twins and Gwen, you made the best cup of tea any of you have ever tasted. They’ve begged you for the recipe, but you’ve refused because you can’t remember! Why won’t you tell them the truth?
