Ingetrude Frostblossom (Tru)
How It Started
Then Tru was born and raised in Targos, the illegitimate child of the wealthy, famous Dale adventuring druid Iraser Flameroot and and Elme Frostblossom, a gardener on his estate. His legit wife poisoned the druid and then kicked out Tru's family. Her sons threw her beloved brother Osco off a fishing boat to freeze or drown, whichever came first.
Elme ingested a miniscule dose of the poison kissing the dying druid goodbye, and as the Rime began, she went into hospice care at a Yondalla nunnery. Tru lived there, too, though she was angry with Yondalla. She did gig work and thievery to survive, even breaking into the druid's estate to stel jewelry. There she found the Druid's spell focus and his journals. They were written in Druidic, and to her surprisem, she could almost read them. She pledged herself to his god, Sarenrae, and worked to uncoil their meaning, learning his magic. She also learned he had loved Elme, Tru, and Osco, and there were provisions for them in his will---clearly a different will from the one Lobleena presented to the magistrate.
Her mother died when she was 29 (which is young for a Hin, who are when young very open to easy flings, but she knew when she wanted Motherhood and family life. As a Hin, she is very much a creature of the town, but she is also a druid, fully wild. After the Owl Priests of Auril sacrificed Eglantine, the nun she loved most, she left her home town for Bryn Shander, where she joined up with a motley crew of adventurers pledged to stopping human sacrifice. Tru came to believe her god Sarenrae had called this group together to end the Rime.
Small person, big ambition, bigger heart, biggest faith.
How It's Going
Now. In Bryn Shander, they stop the sacrifice of mysterious foreigner Ziusudra and set out for Easthaven. On the Eastway, They rescue tall elven mage Violet Starling from goblin slavers. Goblin Four gets away!
In Easthaven, She bangs a Hin mystic who reveals her brother Osco is not dead, but suspended in the ice at Auril's fortress, Grimskalle. He has made her a key! She begins collecting pieces.
They free a local ghost trapped in Black Ice, a corrupting powerful substance that leaves Ziusudra infested by a demon. Then Tru and co. murder half the corrupt government at a luncheon, though a Frost Druid she admires-fears named Ravisin escapes, abandoning an Awake shrub Willow-In-Snow. Tru adopts Willow. They join forces with the rebel alliance including a very weird irritating dwarf bard named Joachim Ringlenatz and a pickpocket human kid named Frank Brown that she loves like a little brother.
RavisinThey flee Easthaven post-murders for Caer Dineval, where a Fifth Hell Cult has rooted to support a charismatic tiefling named Avarice and her mission to infiltrate the Arcane brotherhood for the Archdevil Levistus (he's kind of her dad). A Netherese City has been unearthed and this is why Auril made the Rime! MANY power players want this city, including the Arcane Brotherhood, Levistus, Auril, and the Queen of Air and Darkness aka Mab of the Unseelie Winter Court (who used to bang Levistus WHAT!) Zius's demon kills an important cult member, and Tru frames the cult's murderous leader and takes over as the administrator, allying Avarice and getting in debt to Levistus for a favor because he phones her brother, and she learns
Tru revamps the (very evil) cult to use Charm/Politics instead of Fear/Murder to keep power and reinstates the Speaker as their pawn. Avarice BAMFS them to a Prime-side Levistus-run city on an icefloe to get Zius de-demoned. It works, and in the process, Tru and co rescue a gold dragon and his brother. Tru learns Joachim is actually Brom, lost prince of the Golden Dwarves and a time traveler who has lived his lives fighting oppression.
Back home, traveling to Lonelywood, they discover The Summer Star, the black-Ice-Powered invention of a now-dead mage (and his now-fled Goblin assistant who is none other than Goblin Four!) that can make Day happen briefly. She also begins seeing sacrificed nun Sister Aglantine, who shoes up to help Tru whenever all things seem lost.
They meet Angejuk, an awake whale who acts as a bubble ferry that can take them to Grimskalle, and learn the priests of Auril led by Malcolm Malor are killing her druids; Auril wants ALL THINGS DEAD so she can have the city.
Tru and her summon, Osco-WolfIn Lonelywood their old friend Violet and another powerful mage named Idrisial are trying to collaborate with Chwinga to end the Rime. Tru, a provincial Hin-centric type, realizes she is so irked by Joachim because she wants to hit that. They kiss, but she uses the Day to ast an 8 hour Druid spell to make a garden burgeon, and in this process she burgeons, too. She is done with casual, ready to marry and have kids, which in her mind means no dwarfs. They go back to being friends. They run into Gumri, and also find Ravisin, who dies trying to save her Black Ice corrupted sister. Tru does funeral rites and takes Ravisin's finger, because the way Auril has treated the druids breaks the laws of nature more than Raising Dead on Ravisin will. SHe gives the finger to Avarice, who will get her raised.
Malor sends priests to attack lonelywood. Tru Gumri go up Kelvin's Cairn to his temple, kill him and all the other owls there and an aspect of Auril. Tru learns Frank is Malor's son and also a Half-Hin. She realizes the ghost of Eglantine is actually Yondalla and becomes a priiest of her mother's god. This shows her that she loves Joachim and wants his dumb weird babies, so they throw down in the rededicated temple before seprating, him to help the resistance while she goes back to Targos to confdront her Stepmother and steal keys to open her Druid Father's safe where a key to the Netherese City is hidden. She hopes she is pregnant.
